Originating as a Swedish dansband whose roots stretch to the early 1960s, The Drifters achieved widespread mainstream recognition in 2008 via the Top Five album Tycker Om Dig. The group was established in 1962 and experienced repeated membership shifts across the decades, beginning as an exclusively male ensemble before incorporating female lead vocalists. A mid-'90s configuration fronted by Marie Arturén enjoyed modest traction, exemplified by the 1994 release Nästa Gång Det Blir Sommar. Momentum accelerated sharply once Erica Sjöström—born June 30, 1970—joined as lead singer in 1999. Her first Drifters recording, På Begäran, appeared that same year, followed by Om Du Vill Ha Mig (2002), Det Har Jag Ångrat Tusenfalt (2004), Kärleken År Inget Spel (2006), and Ett Liv Med Dig (2007). The last of these marked the band's strongest chart performance up to that point, peaking at number 31 on the Swedish albums chart and paving the way for the 2008 breakthrough smash Tycker Om Dig: Svängiga Låtar Från Förr, which climbed to number two.
