Biography

Born on 28 September 1946 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Knudsen works as a keyboardist and composer. Throughout the 1970s he co-led two leading Danish jazz rock ensembles, Secret Oyster and Birds Of Beauty, together with alto saxophonist and composer Karsten Vogel. During 1976 he became a member of Palle Mikkelborg’s Entrance, the band shaped by Weather Report influences. Knudsen’s keyboard textures generate an atmosphere of tonal coloration that suits slow, sparse minimalist frameworks most effectively. His music stays close to the ECM Records aesthetic while steering clear of new age saccharine mellowness.
