Clarinetist René Camacho leads the Sinaloa-based banda outfit La Arrolladora Banda el Limón, which entered the commercial recording market in 1997 and rapidly ascended within Mexican regional music. More than a dozen musicians strong, the ensemble interprets rancheras, corridos, ballads, and cumbias. Camacho established the group in El Limón de los Peraza, a settlement roughly 80 kilometers north of Mazatlán, Sinaloa’s second-largest city in northwestern Mexico; after years of regional activity, the band issued its first full-length, ¡Mas Arrolladora Que Nunca! (1997), on La Sierra Records. Eight albums appeared on that imprint between 1997 and 2001, with two often issued annually.
Fernando Camacho produced and René Camacho arranged every release from the outset. As popularity expanded across Mexico and into the United States, the group signed with Disa Records, an Univision Music Group affiliate, and debuted on the label with Grandes Boleros Arrolladores (2002). Studio albums continued at a steady clip, frequently exceeding one per year, while live documents such as En Vivo Desde Culiacán, Sinaloa (2004), Para Ti Exclusivo en Vivo Desde Arandas, Jalisco (2007), and Sold Out Desde Los Angeles (2009) also emerged.
Chart momentum persisted, culminating in the first Billboard number-one album, Más Adelante (2009); meanwhile Sony Music reissued earlier material via the compilations Personalidad: 20 Exitos (2002), La Historia de la Arrolladora (2008), and Lo Esencial de la Arrolladora Banda el Limón (2009). The band and its labels subsequently generated further anthologies organized around cumbias, románticas, hits, and similar themes.
Ojos en Blanco, a set of new studio recordings, surfaced in February 2015, topping the Mexican Regional albums chart and charting inside the Billboard 200; it earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Banda Album. Libre Otra Vez followed in 2016 and likewise reached the summit of the U.S. Latin charts. René Camacho and the group returned with Calidad y Cantidad in 2018, which peaked at number 11 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums tally, before Labios Mentirosos appeared in 2019.
