Biography

Penny Nichols built her early career as a composer and vocal arranger before serving as a backup singer across numerous R&B and rock projects alongside Jimmy Buffett, Arlo Guthrie, Art Garfunkel, Susie Quatro, and Donna Summer. A platinum record earned with Buffett and a Grammy nomination mark two of her notable achievements. In today’s folk landscape she stands out as a fresh voice whose material demonstrates that enduring folk compositions continue to emerge long after the genre’s mid-century golden era. “Pioneer Woman” and “New Moon Refugees” already show signs of joining the canon of contemporary folk standards. Festival stages regularly feature her performances, while her latest release, All Life Is One, offers essential listening for anyone drawn to the style.
