The Gibson Brothers

Born in Martinique, the three Gibson brothers—Chris, Patrick, and Alex—launched their joint career in 1976. Observers have labeled their style disco-salsa, while others simply called it hot.

That same year they cut the single “Come to America,” which climbed numerous European charts and reached number one in several territories. The following year the trio scored a million-selling release with “Non Stop Dance,” another track that performed strongly across Europe. In 1980 they achieved global breakthrough when “Cuba” entered the American Billboard Top Ten along with charts worldwide; the song moved more than four million copies and collected 14 gold certifications. Subsequent singles such as “Ooh What a Life” and “Que Sera Mi Vida” matched or surpassed that level of success.

Their 1987 album Emily earned the Group of the Year award. Between 1995 and 1996 the brothers issued two compilations, Cuba and The Best of the Gibson Brothers, both showcasing disco-rock numbers including “You” and “Better Do It Salsa.” The Belgian-produced set Move on Up appeared internationally in 1997, blending earlier material with new recordings.
