Witch fuses time-honored rock frameworks with dense, weighty sonic textures, generating a doom-metal intensity that appeals equally to devotees of Black Sabbath and Mastodon. J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and longtime associate Dave Sweetapple had long sought to assemble a genuine hard rock outfit, so they recruited Asa Irons and Kyle Thomas—both participants in the New England avant folk collective Feathers—to contribute to the effort. Their self-titled debut album emerged in March 2006 through Tee Pee Records.
